June Newsletter Monthly Update

There's no room for hate.
EDPA and its member companies realize that our future depends on equality and diversity. As an association, we support calling out and eradicating systemic racism in this country and around the world. We commit to greater equity, empathy, and justice across our industry, an industry that promotes personal, human experiences, one that has no room for discrimination and hate. As Coretta Scott King said, "Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated."

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events® (IAEE) has released a white paper titled Essential Considerations for Safely Reopening Exhibitions and Events, Version One, to provide general information for consideration by exhibition organizers when planning for and producing an exhibition during a pandemic.
Download a free copy here.

“Although we are eager to get back to our usual face-to-face business environment, safety must be the top priority and we must look to the science and medical communities for the best ways to go about producing our shows,” said IAEE President & CEO David DuBois, CMP, CAE, FASAE, CTA. “IAEE’s Health and Safety Task Force teamed with associations across the industry to collaborate with the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) in order to make sure we are applying the best information available to us as this most recent pandemic progresses.”

“It is important to remember that we are operating within a fluid situation and the information will be changing,” emphasized IAEE Health and Safety Task Force Chairperson Tim McGuinness, Staff Vice President of Global Expositions for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). “We will be updating this document as we learn from COVID-19, and even moving beyond this particular health crisis.”

Supporting organizations to Essential Considerations for Safely Reopening Exhibitions and Events include the Experiential Designers and Producers Association (EDPA); Exhibition Services & Contractors Association (ESCA); Exhibitor Appointed Contractors Association (EACA); Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a division of International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA); International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM); Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO); and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.

Areas of content include:

EDPA works with Destinations International to unify the industry

Destinations International, the world’s largest resource for official destination organizations, convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs) and tourism boards, launched the “We’re Here to Help” recovery campaign to unify the meetings, events and travel industry. The campaign aims to demonstrate that when the unexpected happens that Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVBs) play a critical role and valuable resource for recovery.

Campaign partners include Destinations International, Experiential Designers & Producers Association (EDPA), International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM), Meetings Mean Business, Meeting Professionals International (MPI), Northstar Meetings Group and Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA).

Through the collective effort of industry partners, the campaign will target business event strategists to drive awareness of CVB’s ability to help planners navigate in an ever-changing landscape. The website inks to well over 100 destination sites with CVB staff contacts to help solve the needs of planners and attendees by servicing meetings with insider knowledge and established connections within the community.  It provides associations and show organizers with a never before available directory of contact information.

Additionally in late June, through a collaborative effort with industry partners, CVENT will launch a new feature within their platform (free of charge for initial 6 months). It will help ensure planners receive quality bids and give CVBs the ability to negotiate and ease the sourcing journey.  The platform can also be leveraged by customers/clients as a tool to help reschedule their shows.

EDPA member companies are encouraged to participate and share the campaign across their marketing and social channels.  The Campaign Content Guide can be accessed here.
