The second luncheon/meeting of the EDPA South Central Chapter featured Rick Ferrell as the guest speaker. Rick who has his own company, Tangent Knowledge Systems, is one of the most successful, and in demand speakers and presenters of selling techniques in the business community.
A dynamic speaker and motivator Rick gave a presentation on his cutting edge sales approach entitled "Selling Has Nothing To Do With Selling." Rick's proven sales technique is to teach going against the grain in sales. Some of Rick's lessons included selling to get a "yes" or "no,” realization that the harder one sells, the harder it is to sell, and "spin selling"-getting the potential client to state their own problems and come to their own conclusions.
Rick's approach and teachings may seem to be the anti-sell, but they have proven successful, and he certainly held the attention of the attendees, and created a challenge to the EDPA members and their guests.
Proceeds to fund scholarships to families in the Exhibit industry in the Texas region.
The first annual EDPAF South Central golf tournament was held at Flower Mound’s Bridlewood Golf Club on August 22, 2007. For our first tournament we had a great turn out of more than 30 players and onlookers to help raise money for our first scholarship recipient to be named at the end of the 2007.
We could not have asked for a more beautiful day to play golf and enjoyed a great southwest fajita lunch afterward. Thanks to our major tournament sponsors, Derse Dallas, Southwest Displays, Nuvista Exhibit Services, Radius Display Products, Shabang Exhibits, Skyline DFW & The Expo Group golfers and onlookers alike were able to enjoy an exciting tournament of golf, networking, and food for a great cause.
We wouldn’t have been able to pull this off in such a short time if it weren’t for our staff working on the tournament and our volunteers helping out the day of, their help and support was invaluable. It’s a lot of work to put on a tournament and my hats off to all of the other chapters who have been doing this for years but it is worth it to be able to issue our first scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded to anyone who works in the exhibit or tradeshow industry or who has children attending or planning to attend college. This is a very worthwhile cause and it was a pleasure to put this together and look forward to our second annual tournament next year.
Congratulations to our winners!
